The much anticipated & acclaimed Greenville Jewish Film Festival returned to the Upstate on March 9, 11 & 12!

Check out our full event photo gallery below from our festival weekend featuring three films that crossed cultural divides to engage audiences & connect in conversation.

The goal of the Greenville Jewish Film Festival is to strengthen the Upstate through film by:
entertaining,
educating,
inspiring curiosity,
highlighting diversity,
and experiencing the commonality within our community.

The collection of contemporary international films chosen for this year’s 2023 Festival touched on all these objectives and explored what it means to be human. We hope our attendees walked away saying, “ Wow… I never knew that!”

We began the festival with Dead Sea Guardians” as we looked at human interaction with our physical world. We appreciate the sponsorship of the Helga Marston Foundation and our speaker, Melanie Ruhlman from Save our Saluda. Non-profit organizations Friends of the Reedy River and Upstate Forever and their volunteers joined us for an insightful discussion about Greenville’s water issues – reminding us that – Water is Life!

The delightful movie, Moos, helped us connect with our personal internal journeys. This film was sponsored by The Breakthrough Coach – Jill and Malachi Pancoast. We tasted a bit of the cuisine of the Netherlands with the “Dutch Touch”- created by the one and only Uptown Catering Company with input from wonderful local Dutch women who opened our eyes to the traditional delicacies of the Netherlands. We will never forget their saying, You aint much if you aint Dutch!

Our third film, 90 Minute War, looked at our differences while finding ways to live together. Sponsored by First Baptist Greenville this sharp-edged political mockumentary brought a renewed look at the never-ending conflict between Israelis and Palestinians.  Joining us was Dr. Rebecca Shimoni Stoil from Clemson University’s History department. She gave us excellent insight into the role of satire in discussing serious, tense political situations.

Watch for news of our Summer Movie in August!

See you at the movies…

It is also the lowest place on earth and one of the wonders of the world. Tragically, the Dead Sea is drying due to overconsumption and poor water management. An enjoyable and endearing comedy about Jewish families and following your dreams. Our young heroine pins all her hopes on getting into Amsterdam’s leading drama college but she’s a complete flop at the audition and ends up taking a job in the cafeteria instead. Things get even more complicated when her dishy childhood friend, Sam, returns from Israel, announcing that he has broken up with his girlfriend. Delightful and funny from start to finish this is a charming new Jewish comedy from Holland.

Day 3 - Sunday, March 12

The 90 Minute War

Presenting Sponsor

A brilliant new mockumentary comedy that attempts to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict via a football (soccer) match. They have tried it all: wars and peace processes, terror attacks and closures, road checks and Intifadas. After long decades of futile attempts to settle the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, there is only one solution left. Based on a successful Israeli novel of the same name, The 90-Minute War – directed by veteran Israeli director Eyal Halfon and starring Moshe Ivgy – offers a thought-provoking take on the conflict, and an ingenious plan for a resolution.
